Radha-Kunda

There is no place more sacred and holy as the transcendental Radha-kunda within all the three worlds and beyond the spiritual realm of Vaikuntha. This has been confirmed in all the Vedic literatures like Puranas and Itihasas as well as by all the great acharyas.

“The holy place known as Mathura is spiritually superior to Vaikuntha, the transcendental world, because the Lord appeared there, Superior to Mathurapuri is the transcendental forest of Vrindavana because of Krishna’s rasa-lila pastimes. And superior to the forest of Vrindavana is Govardhana Hill, for it was raised by the divine hand of Sri Krishna and the site of His various loving pastimes. And, above all, the super-excellent Sri Radha-kunda stands supreme, for it is over-flooded with the ambrosial nectarean prema of the Lord of Gokula, Sri Krishna. Where, then, is that intelligent person who is unwilling to serve this divine Radha-kunda, which is situated at the foot of Govardhana Hill?” (Sri Upadesamrta of Srila Rupa Goswami)

“Among all the gopis, Srimati Radha is Sri Krishna’s prana-vallabha, the dear most beloved of His life. Similarly, Radha’s dear kunda is also extremely dear to Him.” (Padma Purana)

Srila Raghunatha dasa Gosvami prays: “Sri Govardhana, is the arena of the nectarean rasa, where the most confidential amorous pastimes of the Divine Couple take place. Because it and other places are situated in Sri Vrindavana, Vrindavana has become exceedingly charming. Yet the glories of Vrindavana, what to speak of Vraja-mandala’s other pastime places, are not equal to a mere shadow of a particle of the glories of Sri Radha-kunda. I take shelter of this Sri Radha-kunda, which is more dear to Sri Mukunda than His own life.” (Vraja-vilasa-stava)

The Padma Purana states: “Radiantly beautiful Sri Radha-kunda is situated at the foot of Govardhana Hill. Faithful people who bathe here on Krishnastami in the month of Kartika receive prema-bhakti and thus serve Sri Radha-Kunjabihari Sri Hari.”

This same Purana also states: “Unalloyed devotees of Sri Radha-Krishna who go to Sri Radha-kunda on the day of Dipavali in the month of Kartika are granted a vision of the complete Vrajamandala as well the entire universe.”
