Kapha
There is a very important rule in Ayurveda " Like things increase dosha having
like qualities and the things having opposite qualities decrease it". This law
can be applied to choose a diet to balance the doshas.
In case of Kapha first thing we should know is the qualities of Kapha which are
the following:
1. Heavy (Guru)
2. Cold (Shita)
3. Soft (Mridu)
4. Unctuous (Snigdha)
5. Sweet (Modhur)
6. Stable (Sthir)
7. Slimy (Picchil)
All those foods and activities which are similar in qualities will increase Kapha and thus should be avoided. For example eating foods which are cold, heavy (like milk products, fried foods etc. ), slimy or sticky and sweet will increase Kapha. Also staying "stable" (not much movement) will increase Kapha.
Bitter, Astingent and pungent tastes decrease or balance Kapha. Foods having
hot
and dry qualities like old grains Barley , wheat, fermented drinks, Honey and
ginger decrease Kapha because they have qualities opposite to Kapha.
Activities or Life styles which decrease Kapha:
Exercise, Yoga ,dry and hot climate
