By the grace of the illusory energy of Godhead we are now engaged in this machine-age. When we leave aside the culture of spiritualism, we become entangled in dangerous types of work. Nobody can live for a moment without work and therefore when the finer elements cease to work, the result is that gross materialism alone occupies the devil's brain. The result is that we have now come to the age of nuclear weapons for the destruction of material civilization. Now by the laws of Nature, nuclear weapons have been produced for crushing the result of blind-materialism.
Through a false gesture of suspending the experiments involving dangerous weapons, the peace movement created by the different powers of the world may be pleasing to the comparatively weaker nations. However, these temporary peace-movements will prove useless by the law of material nature. When dangerous weapons are produced, they must be utilized for the annihilation of blind materialism by the plan of the Daivi Maya or the external energy of Godhead. The problems created by a Godless civilization can be solved when the people of the world will be shown their spiritual identity.
Through huge mechanical inventions, this soul-killing civilization is progressively undertaking types of work that are increasingly dangerous. While the illusory energy is creating this atmosphere of blind materialism, on the other hand she is also arranging for its destruction. Such opposites are called illusory energy. The human energy is thus misused for the destruction of the very thing that is created by the same energy. This situation created by materialists is akin to lighting a blazing fire while extinguishing it by pouring water simultaneously. When our valuable human energies meant for spiritual culture are thus spoiled, it is a sign of mass insanity. While history has been repeated many times, leaders of materialism like Napoleon, Hitler and others now remain in name only without any sign of the material progress planned by them. In the Soviet Union, de-Stalinization has already begun. None can enjoy the results of civilizations created by such atheists as Ravana, Kamsa, Aurangzeb, Napoleon or Hitler. Whatever they created now lies in oblivion. The lesson to be learned is that the materialistic plans of the present age will also meet with the same fate after a lapse of fifty years. Therefore blind materialism does not produce any permanent relief for the world.
The Supreme Personality of Godhead Shri Krishna very clearly explains His spiritual plan for us in the second chapter of Bhagavad Gita. This plan called buddhi-yoga undergoes neither destruction nor lapse, and even the slightest progress can save the performer from every types of dangerous work. In order to deliver the world from blind materialism, intelligent persons must be trained in this art of buddhi-yoga. This buddhi-yoga is another name for bhakti-yoga or devotional activities, transcendental loving service unto the Supreme Lord.
Blind materialism will progressively lead to dangerous types of work in the pursuit of sense gratification. Our senses are compared to fire which is never extinguished even by a constant supply of clarified butter. There is no satiation of the ever-expanding desire for the blind materialist. It is something like the conspiracy of the illusory energy or Maya, much like a mirage which creates the false impression of a pool of water in the mind of a thirsty deer in the desert. Deluded and not knowing that there is no water in the desert, the poor creature runs deep into the desert. Instead of finding water, the ultimate result is death. Similarly, blind materialism therefore offers a false impression that the world has no need of God. Yet even in the desert there can be found an oasis, reminding us of the devotee’s life in the kingdom of God.
Infection of association with the qualitative modes of nature is so strong that it is quite possible for the atheist engineers, scientists or industrialists to become reborn as mice in the huge mechanical factories established by them. Which atheist would like to become a mouse, a serpent or a dog in his own establishment after his death?
Even if he does not accept it, he does not know what will happen after his death. He has neither knowledge of the spirit soul, nor of its mode of transmigration. Although his consciousness is looming in darkness, he should not risk his valuable life when there is the light before us in the form of the Bhagavad Gita. Let the blind materialists accept the light of the Bhagavad Gita. The atheists are requested herewith for their own benefit and for the benefit of all concerned not to indulge in any more insane attempts. Filled with men of unclean habits, the whole world is infected with an epidemic of insanity. And to save the world from further deterioration for human habitation, the atheists should give up their irresponsible mode of life under the blinding influence of materialism and take to the path of buddhi-yoga as decreed by the Bhagavad Gita.
